Heinz Nutrition Foundation India (HNFI) is a Trust registered at the office of the Commissioner of Public Trusts, Mumbai. It was founded in the year 1999. It is a non-profitable, non-commercial organization administered by a group of Trustees and governed by Eminent Scientists, Nutritionists and Doctors, who constitute the Scientific Council of the Foundation. HNFI dedicates its resources in a focused manner by undertaking programs which have a high impact in advancing Nutrition practice.

Dr. Kamala Krishnaswamy is a medical graduate (M.B.B.S.) from Osmania University. She joined the National institute of Nutrition, Indian Council of Medical Research in 1964 and pursued research as well as further education to obtain an M.D. in Internal Medicine from Osmania University. She worked in the field of nutrition at NIN from 1964 to 2002 and was the Director from 1997 to 2002, which includes two years of extension of services. She continued as Emeritus Medical Scientist for three years till 2005. During 1977 to 78, she was at Karolinska institute, Stockholm on a WHO fellowship to obtain a special training in Clinical Pharmacology.
Research Contributions: She has carried out a number of research studies in the fields of diet-cancer interactions, nutrient-drug interactions, environmental toxicology, non-communicable chronic diseases and Vitamin B Complex deficiencies. She has been able to integrate laboratory, clinical and community studies and was instrumental in giving necessary directions and guidance to several research projects having practical relevance. Her research output is remarkable. She has published over 250 research articles and reviews in several national and international journals of repute and has edited and contributed chapters to many books. Under her chairmanship, “The dietary guidelines for Indians” was prepared which is widely circulated and used today. She established the Advanced Centre for Pre-Clinical Toxicology at the Food and Drug Toxicology centre in NIN.
